• Google Signs Healthcare Data and Cloud Deal with Ascension: Ascension, one of the nation’s leading non-profit health systems, will work with Google to optimize the health and wellness of individuals and communities through technology. The goal of the partnership is to enhance the experience of patients and clinical providers across the continuum of care, improving outcomes and saving lives. In addition to moving its infrastructure to Google Cloud and its productivity software to G Suite, Ascension is also working with Google to pilot tools for doctors and nurses to use in patient care. Specifically, we are piloting tools that could help Ascension’s doctors and nurses more quickly and easily access relevant patient information, in a consolidated view.

• FBI Cuts Ribbon for New Data Center in Idaho: The FBI and its partners at the Department of Justice (DOJ) participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new data center at the FBI’s facility in Pocatello, Idaho. This endeavor has been years in the making and is a significant milestone in the FBI’s broader information technology transformation initiative. The new data center will optimize infrastructure, information, and services by consolidating almost 100 data centers throughout DOJ. It substantially expands the footprint of the FBI’s existing Pocatello facility, which has been maintained for more than three decades. This expansion provides the FBI and DOJ with approximately 140,000 square feet of additional space, accommodating both data center and office space capacity. This consolidation will enable the FBI to reduce operational costs, create efficiencies (most notably through energy reduction), and modernize the technological architecture.
• Digital Colony Acquires Beanfield Technologies Inc.: Digital Colony, the global digital infrastructure investment platform of Colony Capital, Inc.and a leading investor, owner and operator of companies enabling the next generation of mobile and internet connectivity, today announced Digital Colony Partners’ acquisition of Beanfield Technologies Inc. an independent bandwidth infrastructure provider in Canada serving the enterprise, carrier and multi-dwelling units markets. Financial terms of the private transaction were not disclosed. Beanfield’s portfolio includes 366 route kilometers of pervasive and dense metro fiber infrastructure in Toronto and Montreal and over 76,000 strand kilometers of fiber infrastructure, representing an average of 208 strands per route kilometer. The company also has 541 on-net locations, including 367 commercial locations, 161 MDUs and 13 data centers. Beanfield owns 100% of its assets.
• Northern Bitcoin Merges With Leading US Competitor: Northern Bitcoin has entered into a merger agreement with its US competitor Whinstone US, Inc. The company already successfully operates its own Bitcoin Mining Site in the US state of Louisiana and is currently building by far the largest Bitcoin Mining Facility worldwide with a capacity of one gigawatt on an area of over 100 acres in Texas. The Whinstone Group and its management team have a successful track record in the blockchain industry since 2014 and have established and operated their own mining facilities in the Netherlands, Sweden and the USA. A few weeks ago, the company started building its latest site in Texas. On an area of 100 acres (equivalent to around 57 soccer fields), the largest data center in North America and the largest Bitcoin mining facility in the world are built in three phases with local construction partners. With the completion of the first construction phase planned for the first quarter of 2020, the company will already have over 300 megawatts of capacity and will rank number one worldwide.
• Sysdig Supports Serverless Computing with Google Cloud Run for Anthos: Sysdig, Inc., the secure DevOps leader, today announced support for Google Cloud Run for Anthos as a launch partner. Cloud Run is a serverless compute platform that automatically scales stateless containers. Anthos, which Sysdig was a launch partner for in April 2019, is a managed Kubernetes offering that enables enterprises to run and manage workloads across multiple clusters, clouds, and hardware — including managing environments that mix public clouds and on-premises hardware. With the Sysdig integration, cloud, DevOps, and security teams have the security, control, and auditing capabilities needed to confidently run cloud-native workloads in production, including serverless applications.
