Caribou.com is at the same registrar and has the same Cloudflare nameservers as GoCaribou.com.

Caribou recently rebranded from MotoRefi and appears to have acquired the matching domain name.

The Caribou.com domain name might be familiar to Domain Name Wire readers.

In September 2021, Scott Dylan, a shareholder in the UK logistics company Caribou, filed a UDRP against the domain name. His company,  which uses the WeAreCaribou.com domain, lost the UDRP against domain owner K-Ventures FZE LLC. The three-person panel published its decision in December 2021.

Soon after, Caribou.com moved registrars from Uniregistry to Google Domains under Whois privacy protection. A change of registrar doesn’t always signal a domain name sale, but considering other K-Ventures-owned domains, such as Beluga.com, Iguana.com, and Scampi.com are still at Uniregistry, it makes the possibility stronger.

While Caribou.com doesn’t resolve as of writing, the domain’s nameservers have changed. After some research, the new Caribou.com registrar and nameserver combination matches another Caribou domain, GoCaribou.com.

A Washington-based car refinancing company named Caribou uses GoCaribou.com.

Founded in 2016, the company developed an auto refinancing platform that handles the entire loan process. Until November 10th, the startup was called MotoRefi, a restrictive name that it has outgrown.

In an announcement at the time, Caribou’s CEO, Kevin Bennett, noted that “The rebrand represents an exciting next step as we work towards expanding Caribou into a full-fledged digital agency, where we can provide consumers with flexibility and additional ways to save money on their cars.”

As MotoRefi, the company raised $69.1 million of funding, including a $45 million Series B round led by Goldman Sachs in May 2021. The rebrand to Caribou, which took place six months after the Series B funding round, coincided with a new product offering, with the company now selling insurance products in addition to auto refinancing.

The evidence suggests that Caribou secured its exact-match domain, Caribou.com, soon after rebranding.

As a consumer-facing company with a website vital to its operation, spending money on Caribou.com would be a logical move.

The UDRP against Caribou.com revealed that K-Ventures acquired the name for $91,482. If Caribou did indeed acquire the domain, their purchase price was likely far higher.
