IXcellerate Doubles Capacities with a Royal Opening of Second Data Center: IXcellerate has announced the opening of Moscow Two, its second Russia-based data center. With the commissioned new capacities, the number of racks provided by IXcellerate totals 3315, earning the company a top-3 position amongst Russia’s largest commercial data centers. IXcellerate’s Moscow Two Data Centre was built in a record time of 6 months. It is fully operational and meets all necessary international standards. At the time of opening, over 85% of capacity had been reserved by current and new customers. The growing demand for IXcellerate’s colocation services is due to the quality of company’s engineering infrastructure and maximum level of reliability – resulting in the 99.999% level of service availability. The new 3000-square meter data hall can colocate up to 1480 racks within one, undivided space. This is the largest data hall of its type in Russia. IXcellerate Moscow Two Data Centre is designed to host heavily loaded servers and high-density infrastructure. The project power capacity is 12 MW, of which 7.5 MW are reserved for the useful IT load. The Uptime Institute is currently under way to certify the new data center for compliance with the Tier III level.The total investment in IXcellerate amounts to $80 Million USD. Hyperscale Data Center Count Passed the 500 Milestone in Q3: New data from Synergy Research Group shows that the total number of large data centers operated by hyperscale providers increased to 504 at the end of the third quarter, having tripled since the beginning of 2013. The EMEA and Asia-Pac regions continue to have the highest growth rates, though the US still accounts for almost 40% of the major cloud and internet data center sites. The next most popular locations are China, Japan, the UK, Germany and Australia, which collectively account for another 32% of the total. Over the last four quarters new data centers were opened in 15 different countries with the US, Hong Kong, Switzerland and China having the largest number of additions. Among the hyperscale operators, Amazon and Microsoft opened the most new data centers in the last twelve months, accounting for over half of the total, with Google and Alibaba being the next most active companies. Synergy research indicates that over 70% of all hyperscale data centers are located in facilities that are leased from data center operators or are owned by partners of the hyperscale operators. UNHCR, World Bank Launch Data Center to Support Global Compact on Refugees: The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Bank launched the Joint Data Center on Forced Displacement, in support of the Global Compact on Refugees adopted in 2017. Located in Copenhagen, Denmark, the Joint Data Center is expected to strengthen the sustainability of a global data collection system and of country-level systems regarding refugees and other displaced persons. The center was first announced in October 2017. In April 2019, the CEO of the World Bank Group and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the center. The official launch took place on 10 October 2019, in Copenhagen. Present at the launch, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted the issue of having official statistics that are completely outdated and do not represent reality. He welcomed centers of excellence in different areas of UN system, where data is effectively collected and used. Private Connectivity at the Edge Forecast to Grow by More Than 50 Percent Annually: The latest Global Interconnection Index (GXI), an annual market study published by Equinix, predicts private connectivity at the edge is forecast grow by 51 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR), and expected to exceed a total bandwidth capacity of more than 13,300 Tbps, which is equivalent to 53 zettabytes of data exchanged annually. This is enough bandwidth to support every person on earth simultaneously downloading a complete season of Game of Thrones in ultra-high definition resolution in less than a single day. The GXI market study also finds that interconnection bandwidth is an essential component to digital business and validates that to compete in the digital economy, companies must address growing data volumes and increasing data exchange velocity across a rising number of clouds and business ecosystems.
- CBRE’s New “Converged Data Center” Model Adds Technology Services To Suite Of Data Center Solutions: CBRE has expanded its Data Center Solutions offering to include an additional range of technology services. CBRE’s Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) business now manages and maintains both data center technology physical infrastructure—hardware and software (e.g., servers, storage, racks)—and data center facilities (e.g., UPS and HVAC). In addition, the Converged Data Center model encompasses services across the full real estate and IT lifecycle, including those in the Advisory and Project Management disciplines, such as: consulting, capital financing, site selection, development and project management, technology workload migration, and disposition of facilities. The integrated offering of technology and facilities management as well as advisory services is called the “Converged Data Center” model.
