Cockroach Labs, the company behind CockroachDB – an SQL database for building global cloud services, has hit a number of milestones since the 2.0 CockroachDB release in April 2018, including: bringing on significant new customers; breaking into new verticals; hiring senior-level strategic roles; increasing headcount by 36%; and opening new offices across the United States.
Cockroach Labs is led by a team of former Google engineers who have had front row seats to nearly two decades of database evolution. The company is headquartered in New York City and is backed by a group of investors including Benchmark, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Index Ventures, Redpoint, and Sequoia.
Following a $27 Million Series B financing round for Cockroach Labs in April of 2017 led by Redpoint with participation from Benchmark, GV, Index Ventures and FirstMark, Cockroach Labs’ roster of customers continues to grow and now includes well-known name brands such as Comcast, Bose, Kindred, Baidu, and Nubank, among others.
The standard of resiliency delivered by CockroachDB would be a critical feature for companies focused on handling financial transactions at a massive, global scale. According to the company, this has led to several long-term CockroachDB pilots currently running within Fortune 500 companies in the financial sector and increased interest from businesses that manage financial ledgers across the globe.

Executive Hire, New US Offices
To further strengthen its management roster, Cockroach Labs recently appointed Jeff Miller as Chief Revenue Officer. Mr. Miller brings over 20 years of sales leadership experience in the enterprise technology sector and B2B cloud companies. Prior to Cockroach Labs, Miller was Senior Vice President of Sales at Hortonworks, where he helped build the sales org from scratch; CRO at Virtustream, an Enterprise Cloud provider acquired by EMC/Dell; and CRO at OverOps. He also led sales organizations at SpringSource – a company purchased by VMware, at Novell, and JBoss – a company being acquired by Red Hat.
In addition to bringing on a wave of new customers and new hires, Cockroach Labs has opened two new offices in Seattle, Washington, and Boston, Massachusetts. Cockroach Labs will also be moving the company headquarters to a larger office space in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City later this year.
