Data Center Capacity Planning at the Edge

Data centers, to remain relevant and competitive, must always respond to the needs of the businesses that they serve, growing as more users and new workloads are added over time. But data center capacity expansion doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Rather, deploying additional critical power requires solid planning and a keen business sense of customer needs into future.

In response to the demand of cloud, content and network providers, EdgeConneX® just recently announced multiple planned expansions at Edge Data Centers® (EDCs) across its North American footprint. The company is expanding some of its EDCs across multiple markets, including Atlanta, Denver, Miami, Phoenix, Portland, and Toronto, to accommodate up to 50 MWs of additional capacity.

Additionally, EdgeConneX is building its second and third data center facility in some of these markets, developing these EDCs into campus-like environments that comprise a robust ecosystem of networking, content, cloud and IT service providers interconnecting and growing at the Edge.

“I’m extremely pleased to see continued and growing demand from customers for Edge deployments,” remarked Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX, about the announcement.  “For over five years, we have been building Edge Data Centers for the service provider community, creating a vibrant, localized service delivery enablement platform made up of a diverse customer ecosystem.  As demonstrated by this current expansion across North America, and based on robust customer demand and positive technology trends, we expect this growth at the Edge to continue for the foreseeable future.”

Considered the market leader in building data centers at the Edge, EdgeConneX is experiencing significant growth from new customers as well as increased need for additional power capacity and space from its anchor tenants and existing clients.  These customers seek to deploy their infrastructure in close proximity to end users to ensure optimal performance, availability, security and economics for delivery of their services. In addition to planned expansions at North American EDCs, EdgeConneX recently announced it has 10 regions under consideration across Europe.
