Digital Realty Expands Board of Directors with Two New Appointment: Digital Realty has announced today the appointment of retired Lt. Gen. VeraLinn “Dash” Jamieson and Alexis Black Bjorlin, Ph.D., to its board of directors effective January 2, 2020. Lt. Gen. Jamieson is the former Director of the United States Air Force’s Intelligence Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Cyber Effects Operations and Dr. Black Bjorlin is Broadcom’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Optical Systems Division. Lt. Gen. Jamieson is a recognized expert in data management, cloud technology, artificial intelligence and machine learning with over 37 years of government experience. She achieved the rank of Lieutenant General in the U.S. Air Force and prior to retiring, served as the Director of the United States Air Force’s Intelligence Surveillance, Reconnaissance and Cyber Effects enterprise, conducting operations for the Department of Defense. Dr. Black Bjorlin brings over 19 years of high technology management experience at Fortune 500 companies to the Digital Realty board. She currently heads Broadcom’s Optical Systems Division, the business unit responsible for developing and manufacturing devices used in optical communications. Dr. Black Bjorlin previously was Corporate Vice President of the Data Center Group and General Manager of the Connectivity Group at Intel.

Equinix Appoints Adaire Fox-Martin to Board of Directors: Equinix has announced the appointment of Adaire Fox-Martin to the Equinix Board of Directors. Fox-Martin will also serve as a member of the Board’s Nominating Committee. Her appointment brings the number of directors on the Equinix Board to 11. With a career in the information technology sector that spans more than a quarter century, Fox-Martin has served in leadership positions across Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas in sales, business development, consulting and education. Presently, she is a member of the Executive Board of SAP SE, leading Global Customer Operations. She is responsible for SAP’s sales organization across the globe, with a resolute focus on the success of over 400,000 customers and over 14,000 employees worldwide.
Qualcomm Previews 5G Intelligent Edge Box for Hyperscalers: SDX Central is reporting that Qualcomm has teased a new product for edge computing and data centers, as well as the first “5G PC” at CES 2020. “The edge cloud is where Qualcomm decided to enter the data center space initially with its Cloud AI 100, a card for data centers that it revealed last year. The company took another step this week with its second product for edge computing: an intelligent edge box,” reads the SDX feature, which then quoted Qualcomm President Cristiano Amon: “Right now you see the Qualcomm logo on this but it’s the result of a design plan with a major hyperscaler company that is actually building the first 5G intelligent edge box for 5G connectivity in artificial intelligence (AI) processing and using AI 100.” Amon then said that the product will be “deployed commercially at scale in the second half of this year.”
