Canon City Property Management LLC, a property management company in Canon City, Colorado, has been found guilty of reverse domain name hijacking.

The company filed a UDRP against the domain name canoncitypropertymanagement.com.

That domain is registered to Property Management Websites, a company that creates websites for real estate firms. It registered the domain in 2016 on behalf of a client but didn’t launch the site until 2021.

Canon City Property Management didn’t exist in 2016. When the company was created in 2017 or 2018, it went with the domain name canoncitypropertymgmt.com.

In 2021, it tried to buy canoncitypropertymanagement.com for $5,000 but was rebuffed. It then filed the UDRP.

National Arbitration Forum panelist Nathalie Dreyfus had no trouble finding Canon City Property Management LLC tried reverse domain name hijacking. She categorized it as a “Plan B” reverse domain name hijacking case, in which a company files a UDRP after failing to buy a domain.
