Facebook declared that it is going to extend its Newton County Data Center and enhance its total investment at the facility by 250 million$. This extension will create opportunities for 200 jobs in Georgia. The social giant Facebook will add three new buildings, almost 1.5 million square feet to the Newton Data Center. This signifies an investment of more than $1 billion.

Three new buildings

In the meantime, Facebook has invested in six fresh solar projects that total 435 Megawatts. These new renewable energy projects are creating more than 2500 construction jobs. Moreover, the company released the Community Action Grants program to satisfy or meet the community demands such as connecting people online or off or enhancing local STEM education.

Katie Comer, community development regional manager at Facebook stated,

Whenever you are utilizing our platform of apps WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, Oculus, we are continuously utilizing our data centers to be capable of managing the infrastructure.

Comer further stated,

Across the globe, Facebook has around 17 data centers in the development stage. Out of 17 data centers, 4 are outside the U.S, and rest 13 are in the U.S.

Facebook, in April, opened an administrative office with 50 staff at the Newton County site. Its first two data center buildings, nearly 1 million square feet, are under construction. By 2021 they are expected to be operational. The Newton County data center campus will be powered by renewable energy. It has six new solar projects generating 435 megawatts of power.

Facebook’s investment in the community and support of their neighbors goes past their physical buildings. In 2020’s spring they gave almost 1.5 million dollars in grants to nonprofits, local schools, and small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Additionally, Facebook has seven operational data centers in the United States which include New Albany, Ohio, in Los Lunas, New Mexico, and Papillon, Nebraska. The company is planning to launch additional three Facebook data center sites in Huntsville, Alabama; Eagle Mountain, Utah; and Henrico, Virginia.
