Titan raised $30 million from Automattic for its email service.

Automattic, the company behind WordPress, has invested $30 million in email service Titan. The series A funding values Titan at $300 million.

Titan is serial entrepreneur Bhavin Turakhia’s latest venture. It’s an email service designed as a more reseller-friendly option for registrars and hosts who offer Google’s or Microsoft’s email platforms.

Turakhia has a long history in the reseller market. He co-founded Directi with his brother, Divyank. Endurance International Group (new Newfold Digital) acquired the registrar, reseller platform and hosting service.

His experience with that business helped Turakhia understand what these platforms need with email partners, and he believes Titan provides an important alternative to the major email companies.

Titan integrates directly into resellers’ control panels, bringing their customers back to the sites regularly. It also offers pricing flexibility, including the option to make it part of bundles.

The service has been offered to WordPress.com customers for the past two quarters. Apparently, Automattic was impressed with the results.
