CAPRE’s Digital Infrastructure Round Up for February 27, 2020: QTS Announces Mega Data Center in Hillsboro

  • Hurricane Electric Extends Global Network to GTT in Halifax: Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone, announced today that it has added Point of Presence (PoP) at GTT Halifax located at 7071 Bayers Rd., Halifax NS B3L 2C2 Canada. Recently, Halifax was identified as a top tech center in Atlantic Canada, boasting more than 10,000 tech workers, representing 5.1% of total employment in the area, a nearly ten percent increase in tech talent over the last five years and a labor quality rating of A-. The new PoP is in close proximity to downtown Halifax and will provide enterprises and residential IP providers in the greater Halifax area with improved fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management in the delivery of next generation IP connectivity services. Customers of GTT now have a variety of new connectivity options and access to Hurricane Electric’s extensive IPv4 and IPv6 network through 100GE (100 Gigabit Ethernet), 10GE (10 Gigabit Ethernet) and GigE (1 Gigabit Ethernet) ports. Additionally, customers are able to exchange IP traffic with Hurricane Electric’s vast global network, which offers over 20,000 BGP sessions with over 7,800 different networks via more than 220 major exchange points and thousands of customer and private peering ports.
  • QTS Announces Development of Mega Data Center on 250+ MW Hillsboro, OR Campus: QTS Realty Trust has commenced development of a new mega data center campus in Hillsboro, OR. The initial development will feature construction of a 158,000 square foot data center encompassing 85,000 square feet of leasable capacity and 27 megawatts of gross power capacity. QTS believes the 92-acre site can ultimately support the construction of five mega data centers totaling approximately 1.5 million gross square feet encompassing more than 1 million square feet of leasable capacity and more than 250 megawatts of gross power capacity. QTS has pre-leased 100% of the first phase of development at the site to a global software-as-a-service provider representing approximately 4.5 megawatts. The Company expects to formally open and commission the first phase of development in Hillsboro in mid-2020 with additional power capacity available for customers in the second half of 2020. Significant pre-leasing at the Company’s new site is consistent with QTS’ de-risked approach to development and capital allocation.
  • CAPRE’s Digital Infrastructure Round Up for February 27, 2020: QTS Announces Mega Data Center in Hillsboro 1Nutanix Appoints Aaron Boynton as Chief Accounting Officer: Nutanix, a leader in enterprise cloud computing, announced that, effective February 1, 2020, it appointed Aaron Boynton as Chief Accounting Officer to scale its global accounting function, and oversee all financial reporting and compliance efforts. Boynton joined Nutanix in 2013 and helped lead the accounting function through the company’s significant growth and its IPO in 2016. During his time at Nutanix, Boynton has helped the company complete multiple private financing rounds, its IPO, and also played a critical role in the company’s early adoption of US GAAP’s revenue recognition standard, ASC 606, in 2017. Before coming to Nutanix, Boynton managed external reporting and technical accounting at Seagate Technology. Prior to that, he worked at Deloitte, where he focused on serving the firm’s software and technology clients, as well as advising clients on international capital markets transactions.
