Google attracted billions of users to its G Suite service by offering free cloud storage. But this is not going to last now. Last month, Google officially announced that it plans to make its free legacy G Suite products’ users pay for a subscription from May 1, 2022. Hence, users will have to switch to the paid version of G Suite in order to continue using their services. The G Suite legacy free version itself will be discontinued by Google starting from July 1, 2022. To maintain the existing services and accounts, users must upgrade to Google Workspace by May 1, 2022. Once users upgrade it, they can use the new subscription without paying any cost till July 1, 2022. In case, users choose not to do it, then Google will automatically upgrade it on May 1, 2022. The new Google Workspace’s subscription will be based on the user’s current services. Also, there will be no interruption in the services or data loss. Once upgraded, the existing users of G Suite free edition will have to provide payment information under Settings before July 1, 2022. In case, users choose not to pay for it, then their accounts will be suspended, and they will not be able to use services such as Gmail, Google Drive, Chat, and Calendar after 60 days of suspension. Google has already started sending emails to its users about G Suite’s Legacy Free product informing them of the change. “In an email to administrators this morning, Google said it “will now transition all remaining users to an upgraded Google Workspace paid subscription based on your usage.” As such, Workspace’s only free plans are for Nonprofits and Education (Fundamentals),” as published on 9to5Google. In 2020, Google rebranded G Suite to Google Workspace. The new Google Workspace serves as a one-stop solution for all Google’s productivity apps. This includes apps like, Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, Meet, Calendar, Chat, Slides, and more. To take benefit from the move, Microsoft is coming up with a new offer that will provide the entire Microsoft 365 solution with a 60% discount – “You can get a 60 percent discount on a 12-month Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, or Business Premium subscription, along with the help you need to make the move.” This can be a great alternative for Google users. Every Microsoft 365 subscription comes with Microsoft Teams—the app that empowers businesses with seamless collaboration capabilities. It enables people to meet, chat, call, and collaborate from anywhere—along with secure cloud storage, support for a custom domain to showcase your brand, and access to a suite of Office apps to help power your business.
