- Microsoft + T5 Data Centers Grab Land in Elk Grove Village: Suburban Chicago, always a booming market, is set to welcome two major developments to the 85-acre Elk Grove Village Technology Park. Microsoft has closed a $52.2 Million USD purchase of more than 36 acres while T5 Data Centers have announced the purchase of a 164,000-square-foot data center shell. “We’re excited to grow in the Chicago data center market where we continue to have tremendous success,” said Pete Marin, T5 Data Centers CEO. “Elk Grove Village has become a focal point for Chicago data center activity with outstanding Village support, reliable low-cost power and robust network infrastructure, making it an ideal location for both enterprise and hyperscale cloud companies in need of additional capacity.”
- STACK INFRASTRUCTURE and Peterson Companies Announce Development of 125-acre Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Prince William County, VA:STACK INFRASTRUCTURE and Peterson Companies, one of the largest privately-owned real estate development companies in the DC region, today announced plans to develop a data center campus in Manassas, Virginia. The 125-acre, multi-phase development will eventually offer more than 250 MW of critical load for flexible build-to-suit facilities to serve large data center users in the Northern Virginia market. The 25-acre initial phase of the project will deliver 700,000 square feet, serving 72 MW of critical capacity beginning as early as the end of 2020.
- Google Cloud Lands Agreement with Lufthansa Group to Support Optimization of its Airline Operations: Lufthansa Group, the world’s largest aviation group in terms of revenue, has selected Google Cloud as a strategic partner to optimize its operations performance. Lufthansa Group will combine previously disparate systems and data feeds into one unified platform by leveraging Google Cloud’s infrastructure and leading machine-learning capabilities. Lufthansa Group’s new operations platform will simultaneously consider a number of factors of a stable operation– aircraft rotation, aircraft maintenance, crew assignment and more–and provide recommendations to improve passenger punctuality, on-time flights and flight plan adherence in case of disruptions, such as weather events or delays due to airspace congestion. To support Lufthansa Group in designing and implementing the platform, an onsite Google Cloud team will work hand-in-hand with operations- and IT-experts from Lufthansa Group.
- New Oracle Enterprise Manager Automates Database Migration and Simplifies Complex Hybrid Cloud Environments: To help customers easily move Oracle Databases to the cloud and simplify management of hybrid cloud environments, Oracle has announced significant enhancements to its enterprise management platform, Oracle Enterprise Manager. The new release adds functionality that automates database migration and provides a single dashboard that improves visibility, control, and management for hybrid IT environments. Oracle Enterprise Manager’s migration capabilities provide unprecedented flexibility and ease of use to accelerate and simplify the transition to the cloud. Since most large organizations have to move multiple databases to the cloud over an extended period of time, it’s critical to have a cloud migration solution that eliinates the timing and pricing pressures typical with other vendor’s rigid migration solutions.
Edgecore’s Open Packet Transponder, Cassini, Successfully Completes Field Trial at Telefónica del Perú: The Open Optical & Packet Transport group is a project group within the Telecom Infra Project that works on the definition of open technologies, architectures, and interfaces in optical and IP Networking. Edgecore’s open packet transponder, Cassini, integrates 100GbE L2/L3 switching with L1 optical transport functions as line-card modules, and covers data center interconnect, metro, and access backhaul use cases. Cassini is an open optical packet transponder (OOPT) whose design was contributed to the Telecom Infra Project (TIP). Cassini is the industry’s highest capacity and first modular open packet transponder, offering a flexible mix of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) packet switching ports and 100/200 Gbps coherent optical interfaces for data center interconnect, service provider metro, and backhaul use cases. Cassini reduces network operator costs and allows for a choice of optical and software technology. The OOPT supports coherent DSPs and optical transceivers from leading optical partners – Acacia Communications, Finisar Corporation, Fujitsu Optical Components Ltd., Lumentum, and NTT Electronics – and supports a choice of commercial software from IP Infusion and open source software, including SONiC and the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) Open Disaggregated Transport Network (ODTN) platform.
