Amsterdam-based colocation company Datacenter.com, a carrier-neutral provider of colocation services ‘on demand,’ has been approved for the EU Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency in Data Centers. The EU Code of Conduct for Data Centers was created in response to increasing energy consumption in data centers and the need to reduce the related environmental, economic and energy supply security impacts.

European data centers signing this agreement are obliged to reduce their energy consumption. Datacenter.com is an OCP ready data center provider with its flagship facility AMS1 located in Amsterdam. energy efficient pPUE of 1.04. It means that very limited power and cooling capacity is required per unit of IT in this AMS1 facility. Datacenter.com has already been awarded ISO 14001:2015 environmental certification for its data center operations.

“As Datacenter.com we confirm our support for the Paris climate agreement, which reflects the EU’s stated Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency in Data Centers,” said Jochem Steman, CEO of Datacenter.com.

“Information technology (IT) equipment and services consume over 8% of electrical power in the EU and produce about 4% of its CO2 emissions,” said Jochem Steman, CEO of Datacenter.com. “The Paris climate agreement drives the data center industry to reduce the overhead of carbon waste. It is very natural for Datacenter.com to apply innovation to solve challenges like the reduction of energy waist. We do everything we can to reduce unnecessary costs and energy consumption for the data center services we provide, and we will continue to do so. As Datacenter.com we confirm our support for the Paris climate agreement, which reflects the EU’s stated Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency in Data Centers.”

The announcement follows the news of Datacenter.com planning to add 50 percent of new data center whitespace in Amsterdam. The expansion project will increase the available whitespace power by an additional 1,5MW. Since its opening in November 2017, the first phase of this Datacenter.com AMS1 facility in Amsterdam would already accommodate a broad group of companies in a wide range of segments, such as digital media, gaming, cloud computing, network solutions, financial institutions and enterprises.
